Road Maintenance

Overview
The Road Maintenance Crews provide roadway maintenance and repair for approximately 660 miles of road in the unincorporated areas of Contra Costa County. Some of the types of work includes failed pavement repairs, road shoulder repairs, road slide repairs, traffic signs and striping installation, guardrail repairs, culvert and pipe installation, and debris removal (from the public road right of way).

Some of the road maintenance activities are performed on a seasonal basis. During the spring and summer months maintenance work is focused on the asphalt roadway. This includes asphalt pavement repairs, chip seals, slurry seals, crack sealing, and fabric patching. During the fall and winter months work is focused on drainage maintenance to keep drainage facilities along roads free of obstructions and functioning properly to carry away storm waters. This includes shoulder reshaping, ditch cleaning, flushing and cleaning culverts, clearing catch-basins, removing storm related debris and other storm drain cleaning.

Other activities are performed all year round, which include sign installation and repair, pavement striping and markings, guardrail installation and repair, pothole repairs, and sidewalk repairs.
