41st Annual Celebration: January 22, 2019

In 2019, fifty one years will have passed since the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  That sobering reminder will serve as a backdrop to Contra Costa County’s 41st annual commemoration of Dr. King’s life and legacy.   We hope you will make a note to save the date of Tuesday, January 22, 2019, and plan to attend our community celebration.



40th Annual Celebration: January 16, 2018

2018 MLK Student Humanitarian
During our January 2018 event, Las Lomas High School senior Sienna Terry was named Student Humanitarian of the Year, and thanked her family and friends for their support.
Siennas calm and strong leadership has transformed the lives of her student body and faculty. She encouraged the administration to initiate an Equity Summit. Sienna's leadership and friends established "Care Week" and a Latino Unidos club. Sienna has transformed from a bullied  teen into a leader. She is a former intern at the United States House of Representative and was elected as governor for the California Girls State Alumnae Foundation.  

2018 MLK Humanitarian Award
As a man who believes community involvement is one of the benchmarks of a fulfilled life, Mr. Arnold is achieving just that. This Year Phil Arnold was recognized as 2018 Humanitarian of the Year Award. As a county resident and community activist for more than 25 years, Phil Arnold is well-known by many. Arnold is a US Veteran and retired software industry executive but more important to him is being a husband of 46 years, father to three, and grandfather to six.

Keynote Speaker and 2008 MLK Humanitarian Award Honoree Reverend Charles D. Tinsley mentioned the many strides that have taken place since the time of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., but the work that still remains. In our hallway, posters asked visitors to state their commitment.
