Soldiers and Sailors Relief Act of 1940

Administered by the Federal Government of the United States of America, military personnel on active duty are eligible to defer the payment of their taxes under the provisions of the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Civil Relief Act.

Instead of the penalties, costs, and fees imposed under California law, the unpaid taxes are subject only to interest at the rate of 6% per annum. This application form may be completed by the military service person, their adult dependent, or any other individual authorized by the service person to act on their behalf.

If you qualify, complete the Application for Property Tax Relief for Military Personnel and return it along with a copy of your military orders to:

Contra Costa County Treasurer - Tax Collector
625 Court St., Room 100
Martinez, CA 94553
