As a Contra Costa County Supervisor, Supervisor Gioia is a leader in addressing the childhood obesity epidemic.

Projects include: 

Serving on the Leadership Council of Healthy and Active Before 5; a county-wide collaboration aimed at reducing and preventing childhood obesity.

Spearheading the County's healthy vending machine ordinance that requires all county vending machines to be stocked with at least 50% "healthy" food and beverage choices.

Helping to establish a farm stand selling fresh produce at Kaiser Hospital Richmond.

Supporting changes to the "built environment" to promote physical activity and wellness in our every-day lives, such as building and enhancing biking and walking paths, improving public transit, and improving safety in parks and on streets.

Working with the West Contra Costa Unified School District to increase health care on campuses.
