The Hall
The John A. Davis Juvenile Hall opened in June 2005.  It is a 290-bed, maximum-security detention facility, for juvenile offenders up to age 18. Residents are classified and assigned to housing units based on gender, age, offense, and special needs.

In addition to ten housing units, the facility maintains a large kitchen, laundry area and has complete education and medical wings. Medical and mental health services are provided to the minors through Contra Costa County Health Services.

Visiting Hours and Guidelines

A living unit
Minors are allowed two hours of visitation time per week.  Each hour must be completed on two separate visitation days; one weekday and one weekend day.  Only parents or legal guardians may visit.

Hours:
For minors whose last names begin with:
A-I: Monday 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM or 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM
J-R: Tuesday 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM or 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM
S-Z: Wednesday 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM or 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM

No visiting on Thursday or Friday

A-Q: Saturday 9:15 AM to 11:45 AM or 12:45 PM to 4:30 PM
R-Z: Sunday 9:15 AM to 11:45 AM or 2 PM to 4:30 PM

Parents or legal guardians of a minor on Special Visit Status must schedule a visiting appointment in advance by calling 925-957-2725.  Juvenile Hall staff will notify those parents or legal guardians, if their minor is placed on Special Visit Status.


Guidelines:
    Visitors must present proper identification, such as a valid California Driver's License or ID to staff upon arrival.
  • All personal property must be left in vehicle.
  • All visitors must pass through the metal detector, without alarm, prior to all visits.
  • No food, drink or other items allowed.
Mt. McKinley School

School Classroom
The Contra Costa County Office of Education operates the Mt. McKinley School, which is a fully accredited year-round school. Residents attend school Monday through Friday and can study to earn a GED or high school diploma while in custody.

The library, which opened in November 2006, is located in the education wing of the facility.  It is staffed with a librarian provided by the Contra Costa County Library.

Juvenile Hall is equipped with a library, providing reading and educational materials for the minors.
