IMAGINE
A BETTER BART STATION AREA
Dear Friend:
On behalf
of Contra Costa County and BART, we are pleased to announce an exciting
new process for the development of the BART property at the Pleasant Hill
station. With the assistance of Peter Katz, author of The New Urbanism
- Toward an Architecture of Community, we have retained a nationally
recognized new urbanist design firm to develop a community-based plan
for the future of the Pleasant Hill BART station area.If you care about:
 | future development
on the BART property at the Pleasant Hill station, or |
 | traffic in and
around the Pleasant Hill BART station, or |
 | parking at Pleasant
Hill BART, or |
 | services and facilities
for area residents and employees, or |
 | the proposed pedestrian/bicycle
bridges, including the Iron Horse Trail bridge over Treat Boulevard,
or |
 | the ultimate uses
of the Las Juntas Swim Club site, |
then you will want
to take part in this important process!
We believe that the
time has come for us - as a community - to take a careful look at the
station area, identify what’s working, determine what we would like to
improve, and together develop a shared vision for what we would like the
station area to look like in the future. We believe that the Pleasant
Hill BART station area can be a part of our community that we can be proud
of, and we are anxious to begin working toward that goal.
We can’t do this
without you! You - as the local decision-makers, residents, employees,
business owners, commuters, activists and community leaders - have the
insight, experience, ideas, perspective, interest, commitment, and leadership
to make this happen. The success of this effort clearly depends on your
involvement and support. You CAN make a difference!
We would therefore
like to invite and encourage your participation in a new urbanist design
charrette for the Pleasant Hill BART station area. The first meeting
of the charrette will be an important kick-off meeting on Tuesday,
January 16, 2001 from 7:00 - 9:00 PM, at the Embassy Suites Hotel,
located at 1345 Treat Boulevard in Walnut Creek. This first meeting is
designed to help improve the community’s understanding of the project
and the process and the consultant team’s understanding of the community’s
needs. We want to hear from you - before the design work begins!
Then, February 22
through 27, 2001, you will have the opportunity to work with the design
team as the design for the Pleasant Hill BART station area evolves over
a six-day charrette. The highlights of this charrette process will be
three public workshops where you can participate in shaping the future
of the station area. A flier with meeting dates and times and some additional
information is enclosed.
We are excited about
this process and look forward to seeing you on January 16th at this important
and informative first meeting.
Warm Regards,
