DEBRIS RECOVERY PROGRAM

County Ordinance Effective July 8, 2004

The Contra Costa County Board or Supervisors adopted Ordinance 2004-16 which added Chapter 418-14 to the County Code. This ordinance requires owners of all construction or demolition projects that are 5,000 square feet in size or greater to demonstrate that at least 50% of the construction and demolition debris generated on the jobsite are reused, recycled or otherwise diverted (unless a diversion adjustment is granted).

State CalGreen 2010 Requirements

Chapter 4 and 5 of the 2010 California Green Building Standards Code requires that owners of new occupiable buildings being constructed, which are not regulated by County Ordinance 2004-16, must submit debris recovery plans to demonstrate that at least 50% of the construction debris generated on the jobsite are reused, recycled or otherwise diverted.
