Welfare to Work Mapping Project

The Contra Costa County Community Development Department is involved in an ongoing project analyzing and mapping the geographic characteristics of CalWORK's clients. Elements in the analysis and mapping project include:
Population density of CalWORKs participants. Locations for CalWORKs participants both working and looking for work.
Locations where the greatest number of entry-level jobs are projected to be created. Locations of CalWORKs participant's looking for daycare and with children currently enrolled in daycare.
CalWORKs participants with children in Child Protective Services. Performance of public schools.
Locations of childcare providers and licensed day care providers. Locations of family foster care.
Public Transit lines Contra Costa County cities and roads.

Several maps were created as a part of this project. Topical maps included Transit and Employment, Children and CalWORKs and a Welfare to Work Overview map. The overview map is available for download here. After reading the disclaimer below, click on the map icon below to access the map.

These maps were prepared as part of an interdepartmental agreement between Community Development and the Employment and Human Services Department. If your department is interested in similar data analyses and mapping, Community Development staff are available to discuss the terms of interdepartmental agreements for our mapping and analyses services. Please contact John Cunningham at 335-1243 or via email:

The Community Development Department has also provided County Connection with maps to help them in their efforts to serve the welfare-to-work community. County Connection received a grant from the MTC to expand routes serving low-income areas. The map can be viewed via the links below.
