Contra
Costa County residents call agencies, non-profit groups, and/or Mr. Gary
Bogue from the Contra Costa Times to ask questions about how to deal with
wild animals in their backyards. The
County Fish and Wildlife Committee, an advisory committee to the County
Board of Supervisors, found that with the increase in homes built near
open spaces, there has been an increase in negative interactions between
humans and local wildlife. In
2003, the FWC published a 12-page booklet called “Wildlife
in Your Backyard!” that outlines common strategies used to prevent
unwanted encounters with wildlife in urban neighborhoods.
Copies of the informational booklet are available from the County
Animal Services Department, East Bay Municipal Utility District, Lindsay
Wildlife Museum and many other locations. The
Fish and Wildlife Committee was following-up the publication of the 2003
informational booklet by hosting “Living with Wildlife in The
handout that was distributed at the symposium contains lots of valuable
information on how to deal with wildlife in Contra Costa County.
