Terrance Cheung joined Supervisor John Gioia's staff in Summer 2001. In 2005, he was appointed to his current position as Chief of Staff. Terrance graduated from San Francisco State University with a BA in Broadcast Electronics Communication Arts, emphasizing in Journalism and worked briefly as the East Bay Bureau Chief for BayTV where he routinely covered issues in West Contra Costa County. Terrance is the staff liaison to Pinole, and the unincorporated communities of East Richmond Heights and El Sobrante. His areas of focus include violence prevention, LGBT & youth empowerment and advocacy, domestic violence, transportation, animal services and emergency preparedness. He assisted with the creation and development of the RYSE Youth Center in Richmond, organized West County's first AIDS Summit, and participates in the organizing of the annual Youth Stopping Violence Summit. His current projects include the construction of the new West County Health Center in San Pablo, creating a Family Justice Center for domestic violence victims in Richmond, and developing Contra Costa County's Reentry Council to help the formerly incarcerated. Terrance lives in Richmond and serves on the board of CALICO - Child Abuse Listening, Interviewing and Coordination Center – in Alameda County, which provides a supportive environment to interview children and facilitates a collaborative response to child abuse.
