What Our Animal Services Officers Do

The job duties and responsibilities of Animal Services Officers range far and wide.  Listed below are just some of the services our Officers, Sergeants and Lieutenants perform on a daily basis:

- rabies control (Title 4, Div. 4, Chapter 416-10) includes information on human bite investigations, dog bites, other animal to animal
- animal cruelty investigations
- illegal animal fighting investigations (dog fighting and cockfighting)
- sick and injured animal pick-up (domestic animals and wildlife)
- loose and/or injured livestock response
- animal rescue
- enforcement of potentially dangerous  and dangerous animal ordinance (Title 4, Div. 4, Chapter 416-12, Article 416-12.4)
- stray dog patrols
- nuisance investigations (animal noise Title 4, Div. 4, Chapter 416-12, Article 416-12.2)
- response to complaints relative to animals at large (Title 4, Div. 4, Chapter 416-2, Article 416-4.402)
- provide assistance to law enforcement agencies serving warrants where animals may be present
dog licensing  (Title 4, Div. 4, Chapter 416-6, Article 416-6.002) and leash law enforcement
- response to dead or live animal impound requests
- response to rattlesnake calls
- provide public education regarding safe handling and humane care of animals
