The Sheriff's Dive Team is one of the most active groups within the Volunteer Services Unit. The members of the Sheriff's Dive Team are all experienced divers who answer the call 24 hours a day. Members of the Sheriff's Office Dive Team have donated hundreds of hours of service to their community and to the police agencies of Contra Costa County, as well as mutual aid services to agencies outside of our county.
Members of the Sheriff's Dive Team must meet stringent training requirements that ensure that divers are proficient in the latest diving techniques.
- Dive Team must all minimally be certified to the Rescue Diver Certification Level.
- Dive Team train on a monthly basis and average at least one call-out each week.
Because of the amount of shoreline of Contra Costa County, including the Delta, Bay-Area lakes, and reservoirs, the Dive Team is called to respond to a large variety of calls.
The Dive Team has responded for assistance from agencies requesting evidence recovery missions, in-water suspect searches, and body recoveries from drownings. Because of the waters of the Delta, the divers often operate in zero-visibility waters with swift currents.
