Hello and welcome to the District IV website. District IV contains the cities of Clayton, Concord, Pleasant Hill and part of Walnut Creek, as well as the unincorporated community of Contra Costa Centre.
People often ask me what a County Supervisor does. The County provides a variety of services to all residents, and the Board of Supervisors is responsible for setting policies to implement programs such as:
- Fire Protection- The Board of Supervisors sit as Fire District Commissioners for the Contra Costa Fire Protection District.
- Library- While some cities provide funding for additional library hours, the County administers these services and provides staff for each facility.
- Animal Control- Not only does the County operate a facility for stray animals, it provides low-cost spay and neutering services, and administers animal licenses.
- Health Services- We work hard to provide our constituents with public health services to prevent the spread of many communicable diseases; we ensure a healthier environment by inspecting restaurants, street vendors, etc.; and we provide the community access to hospital and health care services.
The County also provides and represents municipal services such as sheriff protection and land use planning for the Districts' unincorporated communities that are not under the jurisdiction of any city.
I serve on various regional boards and commissions such as the First Five Commission on Children and Families and the Contra Costa Transportation Authority which provides policy direction and oversees implementation of projects and programs.
I hope you find this site a useful tool for finding information and services in Contra Costa County. Serving my constituents is Job #1, and I encourage you to contact me directly with any questions or concerns you might have.
I look forward to seeing you around the community!
