August is Child Support Awareness Month
Security Alert:
Some customers reported receiving an automated phone call from the Department of Child Support Services with the Caller ID showing our phone number of (866)901-3212, asking the customer to enter their social security number and hold for an agent. We will never ask you to enter your social security number on an automated call. Should you receive such a call, please hang up immediately as this could be an attempt to obtain your confidential information.
As the Contra Costa County agency responsible for establishing, collecting, and distributing child and medical support for minors, the Department of Child Support Services (DCSS) is an important part of California's effort to nurture and protect children and to help them and their families achieve self-sufficiency.

In accordance with the Federal Deficit Reduction Act, DCSS is required to collect a $25 annual fee for services provided in child support cases where:
- The family has never received cash assistance benefits such as TANF, CalWorks, or AFDC.
- You (the custodial party) have received $500 or more in child support payments during the previous Federal Fiscal Year (October 1-September 30)
- You have not already paid a 25 child support annual fee in another state
There may be other exemptions and you will receive further information via the US mail in the near future.
